Query regarding whetehr to italicize TV programmes

Postby cla1982 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:57 pm

I have just started proofreading someone's work and I know that you put things like books etc in italics - do you do the same with TV programmes? I can't remember for the life of me,and I am very new to this. This is for a short novel. I would really appreciate feedback on this. Thanks!

Hi,

TV programmes - italics,

TV series - italics,

episodes within series - roman in quotation marks, e.g. episode three (series one) of Citizen Smith, "Abide with Me".

It's mainly true that TV shows are italicised in published works, but it is quite common, especially in newspapers, to see them spelt out in Title Case. Generally you'll be fine italicising them though, unless the style guide specifies otherwise.
