Further reading

Although no works have been formally cited in this course, several deserve a mention, and would prove useful in any editor's or proofreader's library. Lovers of words and typography might even find themselves reading them for pleasure.

One book that every author, editor and proofreader should own is the Writers' and artists' Yearbook (published annually: A & C Black Ltd). Not only does it contain advice on proofreading and a list of symbols (in quaint black and white!), it also lists virtually every publisher of books and magazines, every TV and radio station and numerous other organisations, along with relevant contact information. But this is only the tip of the iceberg; there's a wealth of publishing-related information every year.
